Serves: 6-8

Prep Time: 15 min

Cooking Time: 15 min

Ingredients

  • 500g Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup bacon, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Brussels Sprouts

Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any outer leaves that are wilted or damaged.

Cut the Brussels sprouts in half lengthwise.

Step 2: Fry the Brussels Sprouts, Pecans and bacon

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

If using bacon, fry until crispy, then remove from pan and place on paper towel.

Carefully add the halved Brussels sprouts to the hot oil and fry them for about 4-5 minutes until they become golden brown and crispy. Stir occasionally for even cooking.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried Brussels sprouts from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

In the same pan, add the chopped pecans and fry them for about 2-3 minutes until they become fragrant and slightly toasted. Stir continuously to prevent burning.

Once toasted, remove the pecans from the pan and set them aside.

Step 3: Prepare the Maple Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Step 4: Combine and Serve

Return the fried Brussels sprouts to the pan and drizzle the maple glaze over them.

Add the toasted pecans to the pan and gently toss everything together to coat the Brussels sprouts and pecans with the glaze.

Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.

Transfer the maple Brussels sprouts and pecans to a serving dish.

Serve hot as a delicious side dish or appetizer.
